Gas connection & installation

Timeframes for Connection

You will need to request a new Natural Gas connection to your home when electricity or LPG is presently used for room heating, hot water and cooking and the intention is to replace one or more of these with Natural Gas appliances.   Once a complete connection application is lodged with your energy retailer, a connection offer will be made within 10 business days. Subject to the model standing offer for basic connection services, Jemena will endeavour to commence and complete the connection request within 20 business days. 

Connection costs 

Jemena do not charge the applicant for a basic connection. For sites we deem not to be a basic connection where, for example, a mains extension or traffic control is required to carry out the connection, a contribution may be payable by the applicant and will be outlined in the connection offer. Energy retailers

When you make an application for a new gas connection, you can nominate an energy retailer of your choice. If you don’t nominate an energy retailer, Jemena may nominate a default energy retailer for you.

Connection process

Connection process

The connection process is designed to efficiently connect your home to the Jemena Gas Network.

To get started, you will need to lodge a connection request with an energy retailer of your choice. The application form asks for information about your site including the supply address, length of service and site conditions which your Natural Gas Specialist can assist you to complete.

Once a connection request is received, Jemena will:

  • Review your application

  • Advise whether your connection is a basic or negotiated service, and

    • For a non-expedited basic connection or negotiated connection, make you an offer for connection; or

    • For an expedited basic connection your application is your acceptance of our offer.

A site visit may be required depending on the information provided on your application form.

Once an offer is made, it will remain open for acceptance for a specified time period. If the offer is accepted, subject to a retail gas agreement being in place, work is then scheduled and the connection is carried out within the period advised in the offer. Once your gas meter is on site, you can have your Natural Gas appliances installed and contact your retailer to set up a billing account.
